ALICE NOTLEY se narodila v arizonském Bisbee, vyrůstala v kalifornském Needles a život prožila především v New Yorku a Paříži. Od roku 1970 se živí jako básnířka na plný úvazek. Je autorkou více než pětatřiceti knih jak z oblasti poezie, tak prózy, mezi nimi Grave of Light: New and Selected Poems 1970–2005 (Hrob světla: Nové a vybrané básně z let 1970–2005), za niž v roce 2007 obdržela Cenu Lenore Marshallové za poezii, a knihy esejí Coming After (Příchod poté, 2005). V roce 1998 se stala finalistkou Pulitzerovy ceny a je držitelkou mnoha dalších literárních ocenění.

ALICE NOTLEY was born in Bisbee, Arizona, grew up in Needles, California and has lived largely in New York, New York and Paris, France. She has been a full-time poet since 1970, supporting herself by poetry-connected activity. She is the author of more than thirty-five books of poetry and prose, including Grave of Light: New and Selected Poems 1970–2005 (selected for the 2007 for the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize) and the book of essays Coming After (2005). She has been a finalist for Pulitzer Prize in 1998 and is a winner of many other literary awards.
